Goal 5: Effectively communicate and collaborate to deliver, market, and advocate for library and information services.

  • Outcome 5c. Demonstrate leadership principles in an educational, professional, or community context.

Outcome 5a: Apply marketing and/or advocacy principles to demonstrate and promote the value of libraries and information agencies.

This marketing plan was created for my Leadership, Marketing, and Strategic Communications class that was based off a recurring program at the Lemont Public Library I have worked on. In it I applied the principles learned in the class to create a plan that outlined key stakeholders, strategies, tactics, and activities that can be used to promote the value of this social homeschool program.

Outcome 5b: Demonstrate effective professional communication to achieve common understanding as an individual or in group settings.

This artifact was created as part of my Evidence Based Planning, Management, and Decision Making course. The goal was to create a clean and clear board report regarding a collection evaluation at a academic library. This demonstrates effective communication by filtering the data that was collected down in easy to bullet points, highlights, and recommendations in a way that can be easily communicated to a library board.

Outcome 5c: Demonstrate leadership principles in an educational, professional, or community context.

In my paper Queering Library Leadership I discuss the current the scant information that is available regarding queer leadership in libraries. I believe part of leadership is contributing to the conversation, and given that most literature only discusses the lesbian and gay perspective, I saw this as an opportunity to create a more diverse perspective that what is currently available. Through devising my own leadership framework and discussing how to apply it to different contexts I believe I demonstrate mastery of this learning outcome.
