Outcome 1a. Describe the evolving nature of the core values and ethics within diverse information environments.

In this paper I grappled with the seeming contradictions in the ALA code of ethics regarding social justice and intellectual freedom, paying particular attention to the troubles of public libraries, first amendment obligations, and political misinformation. I believe that it demonstrates my mastery of this learning objective by going beyond simply describing core values and ethics. Through description, dissection, and interpretation, I arrive at meaningful guidelines on how one can navigate the complicated modern information landscape.

Outcome 1b. Demonstrate how a philosophy, theory, model, and/or major perspective of the library and information profession guides practice in diverse settings.

The origin of this artifact comes from a desire to find a theoretical framework for how to approach librarianship from a queer perspective. I did not succeed in my search. However, through my research I was able to devise a framework of my own. Through the interviews with two librarians in the second half of the paper I focus on how to apply such a framework in library practice. Therefore, I feel it demonstrates mastery of this learning outcome.

Note: while being created as part of my course work, this paper is written with the hope to be published. As such, any references to "the author of this article" are references to me, the author of the paper.

Outcome 1c. Participate in professional activities and associations, such as professional conferences and meetings, internships and practicums, and professional email discussions and social media.

This artifact comes from my time as the recording studio intern at the Rebecca Crown Library. During my time there I had noticed that the recording studio was struggling with program attendance and while I was able to find potential solutions, it was unfortunately too late in my time during the one year internship to fully implement and test them. Instead I decided to create this document that outlined the philosophy behind some of the tools I created to collect patron feedback and better promote programs to the patrons to pass down to future interns.

I believe that this artifact demonstrates my mastery of this learning outcome because it shows not only my participation in a professional organizations, but my desire to contribute to the organizations that I am a part of.
